Dan Homstad is an Associate Attorney in the Criminal Division of Kassius Benson Law, P.A. Dan represents clients charged with serious felony and misdemeanor crimes, DWI and Implied Consent matters, and juvenile court delinquency and child protection matters. Dan’s focus, commitment, and extensive litigation experience sets him apart from many lawyers in the criminal defense arena.
Dan Homstad received his undergraduate degree from Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, Minnesota. He then received his law degree from Hamline University School of Law in St. Paul, Minnesota where he excelled as a student. Dan was an editor for the Hamline Law Review and recognized on the Dean’s List.
Dan Homstad has practiced criminal law for over 20 years. After law school, Dan started his career in the public sector. He started as a staff attorney at the Hennepin County Public Defender’s Office (Minneapolis, MN) where he represented indigent defendants charged with the most serious crimes including homicide, sexual assault, child pornography, and economic crimes. After his successful time at the public defender’s office, Dan worked as Assistant County Attorney in the Hennepin County Attorney’s Office (Minneapolis, MN). As a prosecutor, Dan was assigned to major felony divisions where he continued to litigate serious criminal trials and issues. In fact, Dan Homstad was lead counsel in over 150 jury trials and 200 bench trials during his career as a prosecutor and public defender.
Dan Homstad’s experience as an advocate on both sides of the criminal justice system provided him with the ability to assess the strengths and weaknesses of serious criminal cases; the knowledge to intelligently attack any weaknesses in the prosecution’s case; and the courtroom skills necessary to take advantage of this knowledge and experience for the benefit of his clients charged with serious crimes.
Dan Homstad is also a published novelist, a baseball enthusiast, a Civil War buff, an avid gardener and landscaper, and is currently in training to join the ranks of the National Ski Patrol.
